As part of the 47th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF), the presentation of the newly established Eurasian Academy of Cinematic Arts and the “Brilliant Butterfly” Eurasian Film Award was held for the first time.
The prestigious event was attended by a delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Alisher Khadjaev, Deputy Director of the Cinematography Agency.
The presentation gathered prominent figures including the Ministers of Culture of Russia and Belarus, head of “Mosfilm” Karen Shakhnazarov, President of “Gazprom-Media Holding” Alexander Zharov, renowned producers, directors, actors, and members of the international jury.
The event opened with a video message by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, who congratulated the participants and emphasized the significant importance of establishing the Eurasian Film Academy in today’s complex global context. He also announced that the Academy will implement educational programs and student exchange initiatives for young filmmakers.
The award will be presented in 12 categories: Best Film, Director, Screenwriter, Cinematographer, Composer, Production Designer, Best Actor and Actress in leading and supporting roles, Best Film from a non-Eurasian country, and a special award for contribution to world cinema.
For reference, the “Brilliant Butterfly” statuette was designed by renowned artist Yuri Cooper and is adorned with 5,000 lab-grown diamonds on each piece.
The main prize — for Best Film — includes a cash award of 1 million USD, while winners in other categories will receive 250,000 USD each.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Moscow on December 5, 2025.
