The feature film “Magtymguly Pyragy” wins another international award



At the 2nd Turan International Film Festival, organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, TURKSOY – the International Organization of Turkic Culture, and Ege University, the feature film “Magtymguly Pyragy” was awarded first place in the “Best Uzbek Film” category.


The film was produced in collaboration between filmmakers from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, based on the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 19, 2024, “On the wide celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Pyragy.”


It is worth noting that this film, directed by Muzaffar Erkinov, also received the grand prize in the “Best Film” category at the 4th International Film Festival “Gorkut Ata,” held in November 2024 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

In accordance with the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-209 “On measures for the further development of cinematography and the creation of a series of films dedicated to the history of our country,” as well as based on the joint meeting minutes No. 65/1 of the National Commission for the Development and Support of Cinematography and the National Council for Promoting the Ideological and Artistic Quality of Films, a competition was held for film projects within the framework of the “Living History” program, and the winners were determined.


On April 29, 2025, a pitching session was held with the participation of 24 studios. According to Decision No. 2 of the National Council, the following 6 studios were selected as winners:


  1. Feature film “Horizons of Fate” — “ShB” LLC studio
  2. Feature film “Temurbeks’ School” — “Koʻzgu Film” LLC studio
  3. Docu-feature film “Shiroq” — “RAMZ-FILM” studio
  4. Docu-feature film “Fayzulla Khojaev” — “Uzbekfilm” JSC
  5. Docu-feature film “Usmon Nosir” — “Hope Film” LLC studio
  6. Docu-feature film “As High as the Pamir Mountains” — “Documentary and Chronicle Films Studio” JSC



In addition, due to insufficient votes in the pitching session, the following film projects will be subject to a RE-PITCHING:


  1. Feature film “Erkin Vohidov”
  2. Docu-feature film “Madaminbek”
  3. Docu-feature film “The Courage of Navoi Scholars”





Reminder: From April 30 to May 30 of this year, the Cinematography Agency under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan is announcing a competition among film studios and companies for the production of 15 projects included in the “Living History” program.

Uzbek films have once again received high recognition on the international stage.



From April 22 to 25, at the 13th international film festival “Kyrgyzstan - Land of Short Films,” with the participation of the Baltic states and Georgia, our compatriots represented Uzbekistan with honor and received prestigious awards.


The Grand Prix - the top prize in the “Best Film” category was awarded to the film “Jarlik” (The Precipice), directed by the talented Uzbek filmmaker Semyon Gritsay.


Additionally, the young and promising director Dilshodbek Usmonov received a special jury prize for his short film “Life Is Different Here.”

“Brilliant Butterfly” Eurasian Film Award Presented in Moscow



As part of the 47th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF), the presentation of the newly established Eurasian Academy of Cinematic Arts and the “Brilliant Butterfly” Eurasian Film Award was held for the first time.


The prestigious event was attended by a delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Alisher Khadjaev, Deputy Director of the Cinematography Agency.


The presentation gathered prominent figures including the Ministers of Culture of Russia and Belarus, head of “Mosfilm” Karen Shakhnazarov, President of “Gazprom-Media Holding” Alexander Zharov, renowned producers, directors, actors, and members of the international jury.


The event opened with a video message by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, who congratulated the participants and emphasized the significant importance of establishing the Eurasian Film Academy in today’s complex global context. He also announced that the Academy will implement educational programs and student exchange initiatives for young filmmakers.


The award will be presented in 12 categories: Best Film, Director, Screenwriter, Cinematographer, Composer, Production Designer, Best Actor and Actress in leading and supporting roles, Best Film from a non-Eurasian country, and a special award for contribution to world cinema.


For reference, the “Brilliant Butterfly” statuette was designed by renowned artist Yuri Cooper and is adorned with 5,000 lab-grown diamonds on each piece.


The main prize — for Best Film — includes a cash award of 1 million USD, while winners in other categories will receive 250,000 USD each.


The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Moscow on December 5, 2025.

Youth Cinema Opens in Gulistan



Based on the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-93 dated March 6, 2025 — “On Further Improvement of the Business Environment, Infrastructure, and Living Standards in the Syrdarya Region” — the “Roadmap” developed under this resolution set clear tasks for establishing a modern and compact cinema in the city of Gulistan, with a focus on screening films for young audiences.


On April 21, the official opening ceremony of the Youth Cinema took place in Gulistan, Syrdarya region.


The event was attended by Navruz Musayev, Head of the Executive Office of the Cinematography Agency, and Shokhrukh Isakulov, Deputy Governor of Syrdarya Region for tourism, sports, culture, cultural heritage, and mass communications. In their speeches, they emphasized that the cinema is expected to become an important platform for enriching the spiritual and cultural worldview of young people.


During the event, the feature film “Three Heroes” was screened for guests and local youth. Prior to the screening, a creative meeting with filmmakers was organized. Actors and actresses shared their thoughts on the film’s message and its significance in youth education.


This new cinema aims to serve not only as a space for cultural recreation for young people but also as a gateway for unlocking and nurturing their creative potential.

Meeting Held with Youth Learning Uzbek in Tokyo



As part of the international scientific forum taking place in Tokyo in honor of the 150th anniversary of Mahmudkhuja Behbudi, a meeting was held with students of the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.


During the meeting, participants exchanged views on Uzbek Jadidism, the legacy of Mahmudkhuja Behbudi, contemporary Uzbek cinematography, and cultural relations between the two countries.


At the end of the meeting, a screening of the artistic and journalistic film Mahmudkhuja Behbudi was held. The film was met with great interest by the audience and sparked meaningful discussions among students and experts.

Cooperation Between Film Archivists of Uzbekistan and Russia



With the support of the Cinematography Agency under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a creative visit was organized from April 15 to 18, 2025, by Sherzod Norov, Director of the “Uzbekistan National Film Fund” State Enterprise, and responsible specialist Husan Yusupov to Gosfilmofond, located in the Moscow region, for the purpose of experience exchange.


During the visit, the Uzbek delegation exchanged knowledge on how film reels are stored at Gosfilmofond, the processes of film restoration, and essential skills related to film preservation. Important aspects of archival work were studied and adopted.


The “Uzbekistan National Film Fund” looks forward to the continued cooperation.

An International Scientific Seminar Dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of Mahmudkhuja Behbudi is Being Held in Tokyo

From April 14 to 21 of this year, an international scientific seminar is being held in Tokyo, Japan, in honor of the 150th anniversary of Mahmudkhuja Behbudi, a prominent figure of the Jadid movement.


The seminar is aimed at the in-depth study and promotion of the reformist movement and the Jadid legacy in Central Asia. The Director of the Cinematography Agency under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shuhrat Rizayev, is also participating in the event.


Today, as part of the scientific forum, a screening of the artistic and journalistic film “Mahmudkhuja Behbudi” took place.


In addition, during the visit, discussions are planned regarding the premiere of the film “The Invincible: The Road to Tokyo,” which is being co-produced with Japanese filmmakers. Plans also include cooperation on the production of the feature film “The Scent of Sakura,” which is part of the “Living History” program.

Work is underway to staff the Central Office of the Cinematography Agency with qualified personnel.



Throughout 2024, in cooperation with the Agency for the Development of Public Service, competitions were held for vacant positions in the Central Office. As a result, 10 candidates were hired for 18 available positions.


In 2025, 6 more candidates successfully passed the selection process, and employment contracts were signed with them.


Currently, the competition process for 1 vacant position in the Central Office is ongoing.


Today, interviews were conducted with 2 candidates for this position.


To attract qualified professionals and further develop the cinematography sector, all competitions are being conducted in an open and transparent manner.
